The Virgo Tale

Dark Lore · 2026-08-26
In the eternal twilight, where shadows danced like restless spirits, Astraea's realm shone like a beacon of golden light. Her days were filled with justice and righteousness, her nights with the whispered secrets of the heavens. But as the ages passed, the world above began to change. The people grew complacent, their eyes fixed on the treasures that lay beyond the mortal coil. Astraea's heart ached with each passing year, for she knew that her people were becoming increasingly forgetful of their duty. They forgot the lessons of old, the whispers of the gods, and the sacred balance of the universe. Their greed grew like a cancer, seeping into every corner of their lives, until it consumed them whole. And then, one fateful night, the darkness within the people's hearts burst forth in a cacophony of chaos. The Brazen Race was born, a horde of monsters and beasts that roamed the earth with an insatiable hunger. They were creatures of shadow and flame, forged from the very essence of the world's decay. Astraea wept as she watched her people succumb to their baser nature. She tried to reach them, to guide them back to the path of righteousness, but they refused to listen. And so, in a final, desperate attempt to save her world, Astraea fled into the stars, leaving behind a realm that was no longer hers. The gods, moved by her sorrow, bestowed upon her one gift: the constellation Virgo, a reminder of the beauty and wonder she had left behind. But as the years passed, the stars grew cold and unforgiving, their light extinguished by the darkness that had consumed Astraea's people. Now, in the realm above, the Brazen Race still roams, their presence a constant reminder of the price they paid for their forgetfulness. And at night, when the moon is full, Astraea's spirit wanders the earth, searching for those who would remember her, and the lessons she taught. But the darkness closes in around them, a living, breathing entity that will not rest until it has claimed all of humanity as its own.

After "In the Bleak Midwinter (A Christmas Carol)" (Christina Rossetti)

Poem · 2026-08-26
Frosted mornings, dark and grey Winter's chill begins to seep away Earth's frosty grip slowly yields As morning sunbeams softly seize The trees, like skeletal hands, reach high Their limbs outstretched, as if in sigh Snowflakes dance, a frozen delight A million whispers through the night In this bleak season, we find our way Through icy winds and frosty days A fragile hope, a gentle light
